Foreign students at the American Harvard University have massively applied for transfers to other universities. They are doing this in response to the measures taken by US President Donald Trump against international students at Harvard.
“Countless international students have applied for transfers,” the head of Harvard’s immigration service reported in court documents on Wednesday. The university is challenging Trump’s measures in court. The American president wants to ban foreign students from attending the university.
According to the immigration director, the strict policy has led to “deep fear, worry and confusion” among students and staff. A handful of American students are also said to be seriously considering leaving Harvard.
Trump banned Harvard last week from admitting foreign students. A judge temporarily froze that decision a day later. A final decision has yet to be made, but it is unclear when that will come. Until then, the university may admit foreign students.
On Tuesday, Trump made it even more difficult for American universities. He instructed embassies and consulates not to schedule any new interviews for student visas for the time being. This may delay the visa application process. This makes it more difficult for universities to attract students from abroad.
