Farmers rock band Normally celebrates a fifty -year anniversary with concert in Lochem

Normaal celebrates on Ascension Day that the Achterhoek band first appeared on stage fifty years ago. The members will do so on Thursday with a concert in Lochem, where they also gave their first concert in 1975.

Singer Bennie Jolink and then-drummer Jan Manschot already founded Normaal in 1974. The farmers’ rock band, which also consists of bassist Willem van Dijk and guitarists Jan Kolkman and Ferdi Joly, made its live debut a year later during the Lochem Pop Festival.

Jolink suffered health problems in 2015, forcing the band to stop. After forty years of ‘høken’ (rocking), Normaal said goodbye in style with a tour.

The Achterhoek band broke through in 1977 with the song Oerend Hard. They also scored hits with songs like Deurdonderen and Steen, Stoal en Sentiment.

Normaal’s concert in Lochem can be seen on TV Gelderland at 12:00 PM. The documentary Bennie Jolink – 50 Years of Normaal will be released at 5:15 PM. The band will be at the Zwarte Cross festival in July.
