Eurostar cancels trains after cable theft in northern France

Eurostar has cancelled trains between London and Paris on Wednesday due to cable theft on the railway line in Northern France. Other trains are being diverted. Eurostar warns of delays and calls on travellers to postpone their plans.

“Due to a cable theft near Lille, our trains are likely to experience severe delays and last-minute cancellations,” Eurostar writes. According to the travel information, five trains have been cancelled between 7:12 AM and 11:12 AM. Other trains are running, but with significant delays.

According to the French railway company SNCF, more than 600 metres of cable have been stolen or cut south of Lille Europe station, part of the route between Paris and London. Fifteen employees, including mechanics, are working on the repair.

Several Eurostar trains between London and Brussels have been delayed. “Trains are being diverted via other routes, which increases travel times. But we are still running,” a spokesperson tells NU.nl.

Travellers can rebook their journey free of charge or request a refund via the Eurostar website.
