A Dutch person who allegedly chatted with the Swede Alexander H. about an attack on the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam was not prosecuted at the time. The minor Dutch person allegedly had no malicious intentions, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) Central Netherlands told NU.nl on Tuesday.
The OM received information in June 2020 about the Dutch person, who lived in the Central Netherlands region at the time. After a year of investigation, the conclusion is that there were no malicious intentions behind it. “His personal problems played a major role in the dismissal of the case,” said a spokesperson, who cannot share what the chat messages were about.
It was announced on Tuesday that twelve years in prison have recently been demanded against the 23-year-old H. The chemistry teacher was arrested on February 22, 2020 in his home in Strassen, Luxembourg. On his laptop, detectives found a document with detailed plans to poison visitors to the Song Contest in Rotterdam with cyanide or ricin.
According to the document, he also planned to cause panic with chlorine, spread gas through ventilation systems and make explosives himself. The Luxembourg police actually found materials in his house to produce chlorine and explosives.
The Song Contest ultimately did not take place in 2020 due to corona measures, but was made up for a year later in Rotterdam.
The verdict against H. will follow in November.
