Director Liverpool suspected of attempted murder and driving under the influence

The man who drove into a crowd in Liverpool on Monday evening is suspected of attempted murder, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence. The police are currently holding him.

Police told a news conference on Tuesday that the driver is also suspected of driving under the influence of medication or drugs. This was not further clarified.

The 53-year-old Briton was arrested on Monday after injuring dozens of people with his action at the celebration of football club Liverpool. The motive is still unclear. The police emphasize that terrorism is not being considered.

Many roads in the city were closed due to the festivities in the city. This also included Water Street, where the collision took place. Police believe the man drove behind an ambulance that went through the blockade to treat a person having a heart attack.

In total, fifty injured people were treated in the hospital. Eleven of them are still staying there, but their condition is stable. They seem to be recovering well.

King Charles said he was “deeply shocked” by the events. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his condolences to the victims on Instagram. “We pray for a speedy recovery for everyone who has been injured,” he wrote.
