In the Bryansk region of Russia, at least seven people died and dozens were injured on Sunday after a bridge collapsed. Several heavy trucks fell onto a train that was passing by at that moment.
It is not clear how the bridge could have collapsed. The debris ended up on the track, causing the train to derail. Among the dead is the train driver, according to the governor of Bryansk. According to the governor, 44 injured people have been admitted to the hospital.
Russia accuses Ukraine of sabotaging the railway in Bryansk and blowing up the bridge. The Russian province borders Ukraine. Russia provides no evidence for the accusation. Ukraine has not yet responded to the incident.
Since the start of the war more than three years ago, the Bryansk region has regularly been targeted by shelling, drone attacks and covert operations from Ukraine.
Later on Sunday, a bridge also collapsed in the border region of Kursk. That happened while a freight train was crossing it. According to the governor of that region, one of the train drivers was injured after part of the train fell onto the road under the bridge.
Ukraine is increasingly focusing on bridges in the fight against Russia. For example, the Crimean Bridge, which connects the Crimean peninsula with mainland Russia, has been targeted several times.
