Jesper de Jong has made a big jump in the world rankings after his final appearance in Bastad, Sweden. The 25-year-old Dutch tennis player has climbed from 106th to 83rd place. Botic van de Zandschulp has fallen out of the top hundred.
The 83rd position is the best ranking ever for the 25-year-old De Jong, who will play in the Croatian Umag gravel tournament next week. He will play against Mili Poljicak, the world number 277, on Tuesday.
De Jong, who debuted in the top hundred in March, reached the final of an ATP tournament for the first time in his career in Bastad. In the final on the Swedish gravel, he lost in three sets to the Italian Luciano Darderi.
De Jong was the seventeenth Dutch tennis player ever in an ATP final. Twelve Dutch players have won one or more ATP titles.
Van de Zandschulp lost in the second round in Bastad, which is costing him dearly. He drops three places to the 103rd position and is no longer in the top hundred after fourteen months. Three years ago, Van de Zandschulp was still number 22 in the world.
