Day program Ek | Group of Oranje looks at Sweden Germany with interest

Sweden and Germany will compete for the group victory in the European Women’s Football Championship in Switzerland on Saturday. The two countries are already assured of a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face one of the qualified teams from the Netherlands’ group.

9:00 PM: Sweden vs. Germany (Zurich)

Sweden and Germany both won their first two group matches. Sweden has a slightly better goal difference (+4 to +3) and is assured of group victory with a draw.

The group winner will meet the runner-up from Group D, the Netherlands’ group, in the quarter-finals. The runner-up will face the winner of Group D, in which France and England clearly have the best chances. But the Netherlands also has a (small) chance.

Player to watch: Lea Schüller (27) could easily become the tournament’s top scorer. The German striker from Bayern Munich was accurate against both Poland (2-0) and Denmark (2-1). The Netherlands is familiar with Schüller, as she scored twice in Germany’s 4-0 victory over the Netherlands in May.

9:00 PM: Poland vs. Denmark (Lucerne)

Although Poland and Denmark have already been eliminated, the teams are keen to leave the European Championship with a positive result. For Andrée Jeglertz, it will also be his last match as coach of Denmark. The Swede will start working at Manchester City after the tournament.

Poland is making its debut at this European Championship, so expectations were already low in advance. The team is still looking for its very first goal and point in a European final tournament. In the past two duels with Germany and Sweden, Polish opportunities were scarce.

Player to watch: Poland is hoping for inspiration from, among others, star player Ewa Pajor (28). The striker excelled in her debut season at FC Barcelona with 42 goals, but she has not (yet) come into her own at this European Championship.
