Cycling talent Nienke Veenhoven Sprint to first professional victory in Baloise Ladies Tour

Nienke Veenhoven won the second stage of the Baloise Ladies Tour on Friday. The Dutch cycling talent achieved the first professional victory of her career.

After 127.3 kilometers from and to Olsene, Belgium, Veenhoven was the strongest in the mass sprint. The 21-year-old rider from Visma-Lease a Bike finished ahead of Italian Barbara Guarischi and Polish Karolina Kumiega. Charlotte Kool finished seventh.

Veenhoven is in her third season with Visma-Lease a Bike. Last month, the Oostzaanse narrowly missed her first professional victory in the Omloop der Kempen. In the Dutch one-day race, she finished second behind Briton April Tacey.

In the first stage of the Baloise Ladies Tour, Veenhoven finished third on Thursday. That stage was won by Kool, who achieved her first victory in almost a year.

Kool remains in the lead in the general classification. The leader of Picnic-PostNL has a five-second lead over Veenhoven, who is now second.

The Baloise Ladies Tour lasts until Sunday. The Belgian stage race continues on Saturday with a flat stage and an individual time trial from and to Maldegem.
