Novak Djokovic reached the second round of Roland Garros on Tuesday without too many problems. The Serbian won in three sets against the American Mackenzie McDonald: 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3. Coco Gauff caused a stir by forgetting her rackets, but also won convincingly.
Despite the simple victory, things did not go entirely as desired for Djokovic, who complained about the conditions in the first set. The Serbian asked the umpire to close the roof due to drizzle and strong wind, but was refused.
After McDonald also started complaining about the weather conditions, the roof on center court was still closed. Djokovic then won the first set and easily extended his lead on his American opponent in the remainder of the match.
In the next round, Djokovic will meet a French home player: Corentin Moutet or Clement Tabur. Moutet is number 73 in the world. Tabur is 280th in the world ranking and reached the main tournament through the qualifications.
Earlier in the day, Gauff had a difficult start to her tournament. The American had forgotten to bring her rackets to the court. She showed her empty bag to the cameras and the public with a laugh, while the rackets were fetched for her.
Despite the clumsy start, the 21-year-old Gauff quickly got up to speed on the court. The number two in the world won in two sets against the Australian Olivia Gadecki. It was 6-2 and 6-2.
Russian top talent Mirra Andreeva also reached the second round. She won 6-4 and 6-3 against the Spanish Cristina Bucsa. Suzan Lamens did not reach the second round. The Dutchwoman lost in two sets against the American Ashlyn Krueger (3-6 and 4-6).
