The cheetahs along the car safari in the Brabant safari park Beekse Bergen can be seen again from Monday. After several incidents with visitors, it was decided to thoroughly renovate the enclosure at the beginning of this year.
The enclosure of the cheetahs has now been adjusted so that there is a wide, natural canal between the cars and the animals. This way, visitors can still admire the cheetahs, but they are less close.
“In the new situation, visitors are part of the landscape, without staying in the same space as the cheetahs,” says the safari park. “By cleverly using height differences and sight lines, the safari experience remains intact.”
“We are happy that visitors can admire the cheetahs again during the car safari,” says general manager Rens Willemsen. In addition, cheetah cubs can be seen from the car for the first time.
In recent years, a number of dangerous situations have arisen in the area with the cheetahs. For example, a French family got out of their car in 2018 against the rules and a number of cheetahs approached them.
A year later, a German and a child also left their vehicle during the car safari. And during a walking safari in 2022, a German student was grabbed by a cheetah. Safaripark Beekse Bergen therefore felt it was time for action.
