Lineth Beerensteyn did not participate in the first training session of the Orange Lionesses towards the European Championship on Thursday. She has not yet recovered sufficiently from her injury to participate in group training.
Beerensteyn last played at the end of April. She missed the last two games of her club VfL Wolfsburg. The last two Nations League matches against Germany (May 30) and Scotland (June 3) also came too early.
At the time, national coach Andries Jonker was not allowed to say what kind of injury it was, but he was not worried about the European Championship. “There is great confidence that she will be fit in time for June 19, when the preparation begins. She is on schedule,” he said at the time.
Beerensteyn turned out not to be fit enough to participate in the kick-off of the European Championship preparation on Thursday. Orange is completing a three-day training camp in Zeist. The final European Championship selection will be announced on Saturday.
The European Championship starts for Orange on July 5 with a match against Wales. Furthermore, Jonker’s team will face England (July 9) and France (July 13) in the group stage. Next week Thursday, the Dutch national team will play a farewell match against Finland in Leeuwarden.
