As a hairdresser, dental technician, career military member, or phone repair technician, you currently have a high chance of getting a job. According to the UWV, the Dutch employee insurance agency, these are promising new professions this year.
According to the UWV, many professions in technology, healthcare, or education have been promising for years. “But in a changing labor market, new professions are also emerging,” says UWV labor market advisor Stef Molleman.
“For example, many hairdressers are desperately looking for new recruits, many administrators are needed due to increasing financial problems among households, and in line with the shortage of dentists, there is a demand for dental technicians due to the aging population.”
There are also good opportunities for repairers of, for example, phones and tablets, because retailers are now required to repair electronics, according to the UWV. Due to the “current developments around security,” the employee insurance agency also designates all military functions as promising, both at vocational and higher professional education levels.
The rise of AI makes some professions less promising, as AI takes over tasks. This applies to administrative professions, but also to creative professions and professions in which a lot of language is used. Think of copywriters or graphic designers.
