Arne Slot has expressed criticism on Friday about the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold. The manager of Liverpool believes that the full-back could show more dedication in training sessions.
“He’s leaving anyway, so I might as well say it,” Slot said, laughing, at a press conference after a question about Alexander-Arnold. The 26-year-old defender will play his last match for Liverpool on Sunday and seems to be moving to Real Madrid on a free transfer.
“I wasn’t always completely happy with his dedication in training sessions. In my opinion, he could have shown a bit more at times, to put it mildly. We also discussed that together.”
“I told him that he is a much better defender than everyone says. But also that he unfortunately doesn’t always show it. That’s why people sometimes say that this aspect of his game could be improved.”
Slot is positive about Alexander-Arnold’s qualities. “When he is sharp and focused, there are not many players who can get past him. He is fast, agile, and mentally strong. But you have to show that every match.”
Liverpool will conclude the Premier League season on Sunday at 5:00 PM with a home match against Crystal Palace. Slot won the league title in his debut season with ‘The Reds’. The powerhouse has only taken one point in the last three league matches.
