Three new tombs have been discovered at the Dra Abu al-Naga necropolis in Luxor. According to Egyptian archaeologists, these are the tombs of important local officials. The oldest tomb is over 3,500 years old.
The archaeologists were able to determine for whom the structures were made based on the hieroglyphs in the tombs.
One of the tombs was for a man named Baki. He is believed to have been the local grain overseer. The other tomb was for someone who could be identified as S. This person is believed to have been the overseer of the Temple of Amon, as well as ‘mayor’ of several oases.
The third tomb belongs to Amum-em-Ipet, who, like S, worked at the temple. This tomb was found to be largely destroyed. Statues and other objects were found in the other two tombs.
The Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism emphasizes on X that the excavation was a completely Egyptian undertaking.
