American man becomes twice a millionaire in one day by mistake at buy lots

A man from the US state of Massachusetts became a millionaire twice in one day. He bought two tickets at two different stores and won with both. In one fell swoop, he became $2 million richer.

Paul Corcoran from Fitchburg bought two tickets for the Powerball lottery. He had initially bought a ticket for the July 9 drawing, but shortly before the drawing, he was convinced that it had already taken place. So he bought another ticket at another store, according to a Powerball press release.

That mistake gave him two chances to win the jackpot of $217 million, converted to €187 million. That didn’t happen, because one number of his ticket numbers turned out to deviate from the jackpot-winning numbers.

But Corcoran still won $1 million with both tickets. With that, he suddenly became $2 million, or €1.7 million, richer. He told Powerball that he feels good about the win, but has no plans yet for what he will do with the money.

The chance of winning a prize in the Powerball lottery is 1 in 24.9. The chance of winning the jackpot is a lot smaller: 1 in 292.2 million.
