Alcaraz fills confidence for Wimbledon with final place on Queen's

Carlos Alcaraz reached the final of the Queen’s grass tournament in a simple way on Saturday. The Roland Garros winner won in two sets against Roberto Bautista Agut: 6-4 and 6-4.

Alcaraz already set the tone in the first game by forcing breakpoints on Bautista Agut’s (ATP-51) serve. The 22-year-old Spaniard let his fifteen-year-older compatriot get away with it in this game. Later in the set, Alcaraz did use his breakpoints, after which he easily won the first set.

Alcaraz was extremely effective in the second set. The number two in the world again took an early break and served out the match in a businesslike manner. He used his first match point after one and a half hours.

In the final, Alcaraz will face Czech Jiří Lehečka, who won his semi-final against Briton Jack Draper. Alcaraz can win Queen’s for the second time. Two years ago he won in the final against Alex de Minaur in his first participation. Last year he did not get past the second round.

The Queen’s grass tournament is an important tournament in the run-up to Wimbledon. The Grand Slam tournament in London starts at the end of this month. Alcaraz won the previous two editions. In both 2023 and 2024 he won in the final against Novak Djokovic.

Medvedev wins against Zverev in Halle

Daniil Medvedev won in the semi-finals of the Halle grass tournament against Alexander Zverev (ATP-3). The number eleven in the world was too strong for the German in three sets: 7-6 (3) 6-7 (1) 6-4.

Medvedev will play in the final against his compatriot Karen Khachanov or Kazakh Alexander Bublik. The 29-year-old Medvedev participated four times before in the tournament in Halle. In 2022 he lost in the final against Hubert Hurkacz.

The 28-year-old Zverev was seeded second in Germany. He has never won the Halle tournament. He did reach the final in 2016 and 2017.
