Ajax has sold a purchase by former director Sven Mislintat for the third time this summer. Attacker Carlos Forbs is leaving for a multi-million euro fee to Club Brugge.
The 21-year-old Forbs has signed a four-year contract in Belgium, Club Brugge reported on its site on Thursday. The clubs report nothing about the transfer fee, but according to various media it is an amount of around 8 million euros.
Mislintat brought Forbs to Ajax two years ago. The Amsterdam club paid 14 million euros to Manchester City for the fast winger. Like most of Mislintat’s purchases, the Portuguese native failed to impress at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. He managed three goals and five assists in 38 games for Ajax.
Forbs was loaned to Wolverhampton Wanderers last season. After eleven games, zero goals and one assist, the Premier League club declined the option to buy the attacker. Club Brugge, who finished second in Belgium last season, sees something in Forbs. He will play with number 9 at the nineteen-time champion.
“Carlos has very fine character traits, is always positive and is also an eager, driven player,” says technical director Alex Kroes on the Ajax website. “Nevertheless, he unfortunately did not succeed in becoming a basic player with us.”
Ajax already signed a new winger with Moro
Ajax already signed a new winger this week with Raúl Moro. Furthermore, Kroes is mainly busy selling superfluous players.
This transfer period, the technical director already sold two other Mislintat purchases with Jakov Medic (Norwich City) and Borna Sosa (Crystal Palace). In addition, Ajax said goodbye to, among others, captain Jordan Henderson (Brentford), Kristian Hlynsson (FC Twente) and Christian Rasmussen (Fortuna Düsseldorf).
