After wet Pentecost, a few summer (and local tropical) days follow

Pentecost is wet and cool, but Wednesday the weather will turn. The Netherlands can then prepare itself for summer warmth with a lot of sun. Local it can even get tropical warm with more than 30 degrees. Although that summer weather is short -lived.

“This is typically Dutch,” says Weerplaza meteorologist Johnny Willemsen to Nu.nl. Sometimes there is a whole change from changeable to dry weather, he explains.

That has everything to do with the air pressure distribution. “We are currently dealing with a low -pressure area from the north. As a result, quite cool air from Iceland, the British islands and the North Sea are coming our way.”

That wind direction will change on Wednesday. There is a weak wind from the east to southeast and “that simply yields much higher temperatures at this time of the year”.

Up to and including Tuesday it is smart to keep your umbrella by hand, but from Wednesday you can go better with your sunglasses and sunscreen. The mercury rises to 22 to 25 degrees on Wednesday afternoon. With a UV index of 6, unprotected skin can also burn in 15 to 25 minutes.

Possibly tropical on Thursday, then ‘it will go wrong’

Thursday the sun and the temperature add a shovel. On a large scale it gets warm with maxima between 26 and 30 degrees. In the south and east of the country, the room can even get tropically warm with more than 30 degrees.

Those who are eagerly look forward to those warm, summer days cannot enjoy it for long. “As it seems now, things will go wrong again at the end of next week. The wind turns back to the west and then it will be a lot cooler.”

So we only get a few warm days, then it will most likely turn around again. “But we see that more often in this time of the year,” says Willemsen.
