After national title, Esmee Brugts also conquers Spanish cup with FC Barcelona

Esmee Brugts won the Copa de la Reina with FC Barcelona on Saturday, adding to their league title. The Dutch international won the final against Atlético Madrid with her team: 2-0.

Clàudia Pina scored both goals for FC Barcelona in Huesca. The forward opened the scoring midway through the first half and was accurate again fifteen minutes before the end. Brugts played the entire match.

FC Barcelona won the Copa de la Reina for the second year in a row. The Catalan women have won the Spanish cup tournament a total of eleven times, making them record holders.

Last month, FC Barcelona won the league title for the sixth time in a row. In the Champions League final, Brugts’ team lost 1-0 to Arsenal.

Brugts was still in action for the Dutch national team on Tuesday and, unlike the other internationals, had to return to her club. As a result, she can report to Zeist for the European Championship preparation four days later than the rest, which starts on June 19.

The European Championship in Switzerland starts on July 2. Bond coach Andries Jonker’s team starts the tournament on July 5 against Wales. France and England are the other opponents in the group stage.
