Feyenoord has once again the best field in the Eredivisie. The pitch in De Kuip finished first for the eleventh time in a poll by the players union VVCS.
The captains of the visiting team give a mark from 1 to 5 for the field they played on after each Eredivisie match and send it to chairman Evgeniy Levchenko of the VVCS. Feyenoord averaged 4.47.
That number is lower than last year, when Feyenoord finished on 4.65 after 34 match days. It is still much higher than the numbers of number two PSV (4.29) and number three FC Groningen (4.06). During the winter break, FC Groningen was still in the lead.
It is striking that Ajax’s pitch was again rated worse than the year before. The grass in the Johan Cruijff ArenA averaged 3.88. This puts Ajax in fifth place with Sparta Rotterdam. Fortuna Sittard scored the worst of all clubs (2.47).
Last season, for the first time in a long time, there were only grass pitches at the clubs in the Eredivisie. From next season, it is officially forbidden in the Eredivisie to have artificial grass as a surface.
This has major consequences for promoted Telstar, because the club from Velsen-Zuid still plays on artificial grass. The North Hollanders will receive a financial contribution from the KNVB for the construction of a grass field. The field must be there on August 8. Then the new season starts in the Eredivisie.
