Airlines Air France and Delta Air Lines no longer let the luggage load and unload at Schiphol. This is partly due to recent strikes from the KLM soil staff.
Air France, the French sister company of KLM, and the American partner Delta are looking for another handling partner at Schiphol airport.
“Air France and Delta have indicated that the strikes are an important reason for the decision,” says a KLM spokesperson. The ground staff of KLM stopped several times in recent weeks. Trade unions FNV and CNV had organized the strikes.
Hundreds of flights fell out. “Just like us, Air France and Delta had to deal with millions of damage and great dissatisfaction with passengers,” says the spokesperson. Today, the judge rules in summary proceedings that KLM has filed to prevent another strike.
The decision of Air France and Delta has direct consequences for KLM, the airline writes in a statement. KLM still maps the consequences of the decision on finances and employment.
FNV and CNV fear that decision costs a hundred jobs
Trade unions FNV and CNV fear that stopping the collaborations can cost more than a hundred jobs. The unions contradict that the strikes are the reason that Delta and Air France are looking for another party.
“This has been playing for some time,” CNV negotiator Souleiman Amallah tells Anp news agency. According to Amallah, “performance problems” have been playing in the handling of aircraft of Air France and Delta for months. FNV director John van Dorland thinks Delta and Air France want a better price. “They are just looking for the cheapest handler.”
The expectation is that passengers will not notice so much of the change, says the KLM spokesperson. “This mainly concerns work ‘under the wing’, such as drawers and unloading and the pushback, pushing away aircraft at the gate. That is of course not visible to passengers. The impact will be mainly internally, especially with ground services .”
