Memphis drops out with injury, Corinthians trainer delivered

Memphis Depay was forced to leave the field with an injury in the first half of Corinthians’ cup match against Palmeiras on Wednesday. The Dutch international appeared to be suffering from his thigh.

The severity of the injury is not yet known. In addition to Memphis, André Carillo and Yuri Alberto also suffered injuries at Corinthians. Coach Dorival Júnior expressed his concerns afterwards.

“If they all drop out, that would be very bad. We have a small selection,” said the coach. “It is too early to say how serious the injuries are, but Memphis seems to have a more serious problem than the other two.”

It remains to be seen whether Memphis’ injury will have consequences for his participation in the upcoming international period. The Dutch national team will play World Cup qualifying matches against Poland (September 4) and Lithuania (September 7) next month.

Corinthians won the return match against Palmeiras in the eighth finals of the cup with 0-2. That was enough after Corinthians’ 1-0 victory a week ago. Memphis then crowned himself match winner by scoring the only goal.
