The summer weather is making a comeback. This coming weekend, temperatures will be around 25 degrees Celsius. From Monday, it will even be tropical warm with “clear blue skies and sun-drenched days.” There is a chance of a heatwave in the south of the country.
“Summer weather enthusiasts are in for a great week,” says meteorologist Floris Lafeber of Weerplaza to NU.nl. From Thursday, temperatures will already rise to 25 degrees Celsius. In some parts of the country, especially in the south, it may already be warmer. However, there is still a chance of cloud cover.
After the weekend, according to Lafeber, we can expect “clear blue skies and sun-drenched days.” South of the rivers, temperatures may already rise to 30 degrees Celsius on Monday. Then we speak of tropical temperatures. But especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, the chance of that is high.
That can regionally lead to a heatwave. “We now estimate the chance at 50 percent,” says the meteorologist. There is a heatwave when the temperature exceeds 25 degrees Celsius for five consecutive days, of which three are 30 degrees Celsius or warmer. Whether that limit is reached mainly depends on the temperature on Monday.
It can also be tropical warm in the rest of the country, although temperatures are slightly lower towards the north of the country. The chance of a national heatwave is therefore a lot smaller: about 10 percent, Weerplaza estimates. However, it remains summery warm in the rest of the country.
The meteorologist predicts “ideal weather for holidaymakers in their own country,” because it cools down considerably at night. The minimum night temperatures are between 11 and 16 degrees Celsius. “So we don’t have to fear extreme sticky nights.”
Uncertainty creeps into the weather forecast only at the end of next week. It is still unclear whether the summer temperatures will continue after that.
