Captain Schouten extends a contract with PSV by two years to mid -2030

Captain Jerdy Schouten has extended his contract with PSV by two years, until mid-2030. The 28-year-old midfielder has been with PSV since the summer of 2023, when he was acquired from Bologna two years ago.

“These are fantastic weeks for me,” Schouten says on the PSV website. “First the captaincy and now this contract extension, which shows a lot of appreciation and trust from the club. I am grateful for that.”

Schouten, a thirteen-time international, succeeded Luuk de Jong as captain of the national champion this summer. De Jong signed with the Portuguese top club Porto last week.

“The overall picture is right and so far it has also been a sporting success story, with two national titles within two seasons as highlights,” Schouten continues. “And we are far from finished stepping on the gas. The entire group of players is hungry to achieve many more top performances with PSV.”

Schouten has just started his third season at PSV. In the past he played for ADO Den Haag, Telstar and Excelsior. Bologna plucked him away from Excelsior in 2019.

‘All ambitions with Jerdy have been realised’

Technical director Earnest Stewart is happy with the contract extension of Schouten. “When Jerdy made the transfer from Bologna to PSV two years ago, we expressed a number of ambitions together and so far they have all been realised,” says the American.

“Jerdy is of enormous value to PSV and we still see him growing in his development, as a footballer and as a personality. We are very happy that this key player enjoys being here so much and will remain connected to the club for longer.”

PSV won the Johan Cruijff Schaal last Sunday with Schouten as captain. The Eindhoven team won 2-1 against Go Ahead Eagles at their own stadium. Next weekend, Saturday at 8 p.m., Sparta will be the first opponent in the Eredivisie.
