FC Twente parts ways with Carel Eiting after two years. The midfielder has been sold to Omonia Nicosia from Cyprus, the club announced on Monday.
After the arrival of Ramiz Zerrouki (on loan from Feyenoord), Thomas van den Belt (Feyenoord), and Kristian Hlynsson (Ajax), the 27-year-old Eiting became surplus to requirements at FC Twente. Eiting has signed a two-year contract with Omonia Nicosia, the number three team in Cyprus from last season.
Thus, Eiting’s stay at FC Twente resulted in disappointment. The former youth player of Ajax was acquired from FC Volendam in 2023 for 1 million euros after some tug-of-war and an arbitration case with the KNVB.
Eiting failed to meet expectations in Enschede. He played 45 matches for FC Twente, in which he scored twice and provided five assists. He spent the past six months on loan at Sparta Rotterdam. FC Twente reportedly receives a few hundred thousand euros from Omonia Nicosia.
Following in the footsteps of Sem Steijn (Feyenoord) and Michael Sadílek (Sparta Prague), among others, Eiting is the eighth player to leave FC Twente this summer. Coach Joseph Oosting’s team missed out on European football last season and is awaiting the necessary changes in the selection.
In contrast, there are six newcomers, including Robin Pröpper. The experienced defender returned to FC Twente after a season at Rangers FC. FC Twente starts the Eredivisie season on Sunday with an away match against PEC Zwolle.
