Van Gerwen switched off on 'Summer WK', Wattimena lets Littler escape

Michael van Gerwen was eliminated on Wednesday in the second round of the World Matchplay. The Dutch darter lost in an exciting party of Josh Rock: 11-13. Jermaine Wattimena and Dirk van Duijvenbode also went down.

Van Gerwen took a 3-0 lead in Blackpool, but then had more and more trouble with the Northern Irish Rock. De Brabander survived a first game arrow, after which it was ready a few legs later.

With regard to the average, Van Gerwen did not have much reason to be dissatisfied. He recorded an acceptable 97.31 points per three arrows. Rock was on the decisive sharper and had a average of 95.16 points.

Earlier in the evening, Jermaine Wattimena and Dirk van Duijvenbode were also eliminated. Wattimena led 7-3 against world champion Luke Littler, but lost 11-13. Van Duijvenbode went down against Andrew Gilding (5-11).

This makes it a gloomy day for the Dutch darts at the World Matchplay. Gian van Veen is the only fellow countryman in the quarterfinals. He will compete against James Wade on Thursday.

The World Matchplay is one of the most important tournaments on the darts calendar. It is also called the ‘Summer WK’.

That makes it a gloomy day for dutch darts at the world matchplay. Gian van Veen is the only Dutchman in The Quarterfinals. There, he will face James Wade on Thursday.
