Dirk Kuijt has experienced a false start as coach at his new club FC Dordrecht. His unofficial debut match against Sparta resulted in a 7-1 defeat, in a 120-minute practice match.
The match was played behind closed doors at Sportcomplex Nieuw Terbregge, Sparta’s training accommodation. After the first block of thirty minutes, the score was still 0-0.
In the second half hour, Sparta opened the scoring. Icelander Nökkvi Thórisson, definitively taken over from American St. Louis CITY SC after a loan spell, shot in the 1-0 on a pass from Mohamed Nassoh.
Sohaib El Idrissi helped FC Dordrecht equalize in the third block. But Sparta regained the lead just before the last drink break. Thórisson scored again, this time after an assist from Boyd Reith.
In the last half hour, things suddenly went fast and Kuijt’s team had to concede five more goals. Newcomer Lance Duijvestijn scored three times and also prepared the 7-1 by Jelani Seedorf. In between, Reith had also scored.
Kuijt’s official debut for FC Dordrecht is scheduled for Friday, August 8. Then SC Cambuur comes to the Krommedijk. Before that, there are still practice matches against, among others, Anderlecht, Excelsior and OFI Crete.
