Royal family sympathize with the family of missing Argentinian man

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima sympathize with the family of an Argentinian man who is missing in Chile. 76-year-old Carlos Ancapichun works at a gated community where the royal family sometimes stays when they are in Argentina.

Correction: An earlier version of this article described Ancapichun as the manager of Queen Máxima’s holiday home. The Government Information Service (RVD) reports that Ancaphichun was not directly or indirectly employed by the King and Queen.

Ancapichun was last seen more than three weeks ago, according to Argentinian media. A rescue team is searching for him in Chile but fears he will not be found alive. Ancapichun works for the management of the gated community Villa La Angostura.

The King and Queen have “met Ancapichun on occasion,” according to the Government Information Service. According to the RVD, the man was not directly or indirectly employed by the royal couple. The King and Queen “sympathize with his loved ones during this uncertain time and hope with them for a positive outcome.”

Ancapichun has been missing since June 13. He traveled to Chile to visit family, reports the local newspaper Diario Río Negro. Remarkably, Ancapichun’s father disappeared in 1950 in the same place, in almost exactly the same way.

Rescue team thinks man has died

The police found his pickup truck in a field in Chile, not far from the border with Argentina. Boots and outdoor clothing were found in the vehicle, among other things.

A rescue team is searching for the man in the Chilean jungle but believes he has already died. The team assumes that he was not wearing suitable clothing, making it unlikely that he survived the weather and terrain.

“Unfortunately, we already consider it a search for his body,” the head of the rescue team told the local medium La Angostura Digital.
