Botic van de Zandschulp has to finish his party in the second round of Wimbledon on Thursday. The Dutchman’s match against Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was stopped on Wednesday in the fourth set due to invading darkness.
The 29-year-old Van de Zandschulp looks at a 2-1 deficit in sets: 1-6, 6-4, 3-6 and 5-5. In the fourth set, De Veenendaler worked a match point away.
Van de Zandschulp was not exactly happy that he had to stop. The number 92 in the world complained to the Umpire, but he did not return to his decision.
Due to the interruption, Van de Zandschulp still has a chance to reach the third round at Wimbledon this year. For the past two years, the second round was the end station for him.
Van de Zandschulp loses the first set within half an hour
Van de Zandschulp started his match against Davidovich Fokina, the number 26 of the placement list on Wimbledon. The Dutchman lost the first set within half an hour.
