Verstappen did good business in the fight for the world title at the last race in Canada. The Red Bull driver finished second behind George Russell. World Cup leader Oscar Piastri finished fourth, while Lando Norris dropped out.

Piastri still has a comfortable lead over both McLaren teammate Norris and Verstappen. The Australian has 198 points after ten races. Norris and Verstappen have 176 and 155 points respectively.

In contrast to recent years, the Austrian Grand Prix does not have a sprint race. So there are three free practice sessions on the program, after which qualifying and the race will be completed.

Verstappen is a record holder in Austria with four victories. The four-time world champion was the fastest four times at the Red Bull Ring, the home base of the Red Bull team. Last year Russell won in Spielberg.
