In navolging van de Nederlandse hockeysters hebben ook de mannen de Pro League gewonnen. Door puntenverlies van concurrent Australië is de ploeg van bondscoach Jeroen Delmee zeker van de eindzege.
Nederland sloot het Pro League-seizoen woensdag af met een 1-1-gelijkspel tegen Engeland en moest afwachten of een puntenaantal van 35 genoeg zou zijn voor de eindzege. Voor dit weekend konden Duitsland en Australië de regerend olympisch kampioen nog voorbij. Dat is nu niet meer mogelijk.
Duitsland ging zaterdag al in de fout door een 2-0-voorsprong tegen Argentinië te verspelen en met 2-3 te verliezen. Australië won zaterdag nog wel van Engeland (3-4), maar verloor zondag in de tweede ontmoeting met de Engelsen (2-1).
Het betekent voor Nederland de derde eindzege in de landencompetitie die sinds 2019 plaatsvindt. In seizoen 2021/2022 en 2022/2023 was Nederland ook al de beste in de Pro League. Vorig seizoen ging de eindzege naar Australië.
De spelers van het Nederlandse team genieten momenteel van een vakantie, waarna de focus op het EK in Mönchengladbach gaat. Daar zijn de mannen in augustus titelverdediger. Dat geldt ook voor de vrouwen, die eerder deze week de Pro League al wonnen zonder zelf in actie te komen.

The players of the Dutch team are currently enjoying a vacation, after which the focus will be on the European Championship in Mönchengladbach. There, the men are title defenders in August. This also applies to the women, who already won the Pro League earlier this week without taking action themselves.
