Collin Veijer had a tough time in his return to Moto2. The twenty-year-old rider from Staphorst even had to vomit several times during the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday.
“The last laps were a countdown. I even had to vomit twice in my helmet,” Veijer said after the race to Ziggo Sport. “It’s the first time I’ve suffered so much on the bike.”
Veijer missed two Grands Prix due to a wrist injury, but dared to try again at the Mugello circuit. He also wanted to ride in Italy because the TT of Assen is on the program next weekend.
“In the first laps it went reasonably well and I climbed to eighteenth place,” Veijer said. “But I knew I would have a hard time at the end, so I didn’t do anything too crazy. It was tough, but I made it to the finish and can now continue building towards the TT.”
Veijer finished twentieth. The Dutchman conceded more than sixteen seconds to the Spanish winner Manolo González. Zonta van den Goorbergh, who crashed hard in qualifying on Saturday, did not finish.
