Market opened: Feyenoord already made the first battle, Luuk de Jong almost transfer -free

The summer transfer window in the Netherlands officially opened on Monday, but clubs were already active beforehand. Feyenoord has made the biggest splash so far. What else can we expect from the top clubs? And how are the other Eredivisie clubs doing?

Feyenoord: Biggest Splash Already Made

Feyenoord already struck in the transfer market before the end of last season. Eredivisie top scorer Sem Steijn comes from FC Twente for at least 10 million euros. That is the only completed transfer for Feyenoord so far; FC Groningen talent Luciano Valente may be next.

Regarding outgoing transfers, nothing is finalized yet, but Dávid Hancko has been linked to Saudi Arabian Al Nassr for weeks. Quilindschy Hartman’s contract expires in 2026, and he seems eager to leave. Igor Paixão and Antoni Milambo are of interest to foreign clubs, but nothing is concrete yet.

PSV: Defense Refreshed, De Jong’s Contract Expires

Reigning national champion PSV has said goodbye to first goalkeeper Walter Benítez. Nick Olij has already come over from Sparta Rotterdam and will most likely be joined by Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz. Replacing central defender Olivier Boscagli is the next priority.

In addition, Luuk de Jong’s contract expires at the end of this month. Will he still be a PSV player next season? It also remains to be seen whether Ivan Perisic will add a second season at PSV.

The 36-year-old Croatian will also be transfer-free soon and is reportedly attracting serious interest from FC Barcelona. Additionally, several big names at PSV – including Noa Lang and Joahn Bakayoko – are open to a transfer.

Ajax: New Coach, Two Contract Files

Ajax has only appointed a new coach so far. John Heitinga returns to Amsterdam after two years and is the successor to Francesco Farioli. For Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer (41), the same applies as for PSV striker De Jong: his contract expires in two weeks and has not yet been extended.

Davy Klaassen has reached an agreement with Ajax on a contract extension, but those signatures still need to be put in place. Jorrel Hato, Kenneth Taylor, and Brian Brobbey are being followed by foreign clubs. For now, there is no concrete movement around this trio, but Hato and Taylor can show themselves at the European Championship with Young Oranje.

FC Utrecht and NEC Very Busy

FC Utrecht has been the most proactive of all Eredivisie clubs. The number four from last season will enter the Europa League preliminary rounds and will do so with newcomers Davy van den Berg (PEC Zwolle), Mike Eerdhuijzen (Sparta Rotterdam), Derry John Murkin (Schalke 04), Dani de Wit (VfL Bochum), Gjivai Zechiël (Feyenoord), and Emirhan Demircan (Bayern Munich).

AZ has qualified for the Conference League preliminary rounds and must also be ready by the end of July. But it is still quiet in Alkmaar. Veteran Bruno Martins Indi has left on a free transfer, and Mexican left-back Mateo Chávez has been added to the selection. With this, AZ is already anticipating a possible departure of David Møller Wolfe.

Of the remaining clubs, NEC is remarkably active. The new coach Dick Schreuder will have Virgil Misidjan, Telstar sensation Youssef El Kachati, and old acquaintance Tjaronn Chery at his disposal. However, an outgoing million-dollar transfer of Kento Shiogai has gone up in smoke because the Japanese player did not pass the medical examination at Red Bull Salzburg.

How are the Promoted Teams Doing?

Telstar, surprisingly promoted, has thus lost El Kachati. The striker was once scouted at Quick Boys, which now even sees three players leave for ‘De Witte Leeuwen’. Milan Zonneveld, Nigel Ogidi Nwankwo, and Patrick Brouwer are all trading Sportpark Nieuw Zuid for Velsen-Zuid.

The other two promoted teams, Excelsior and FC Volendam, have remained quiet so far. However, Volendam has strengthened with Ozan Kökçü, the older brother of former Feyenoord player Orkun Kökçü.

The transfer market in the Netherlands is open for 2.5 months. Until Monday, September 1, at 11:59 PM, players can still be taken over from other clubs.
