In Breda, a 52-year-old scooter driver punched an officer in the face when the officer tried to stop him. He wrapped his watch around his fist and used it as a knuckle duster. The man was arrested and spent the night in jail.
The incident occurred late Friday evening in the center of Breda, police say. Two officers walking through the center saw a scooter approaching them without lights. When they signaled for him to stop, the driver refused. He tried to drive around the officers, but hit a curb and fell.
One of the officers went to the man to arrest him but was then punched in the face several times. It later turned out that the suspect had wrapped his watch around his fist to use it as a knuckle duster. The officer sustained injuries to his face.
The officers gained control of the man with a taser. He was taken to the police station and spent the night there. “The suspect will be heard today,” police reported Saturday morning.
Presumably, the case will fall under the category of Violence Against Police Officers (GTPA). This means, among other things, that the Public Prosecution Service (OM) will treat the case with priority and that the punishment may be higher.
