FC Utrecht continues to make moves in the transfer market. The Dom city residents strengthened their squad on Friday within a few hours with Gjivai Zechiël from Feyenoord and a talent from the second team of Bayern Munich.
The 21-year-old Zechiël will be loaned from Feyenoord until the end of the season. Last season, the midfielder played on loan for Sparta Rotterdam. According to FC Utrecht, clubs were lining up to loan him next season. He would be able to count on little playing time at Feyenoord.
Zechiël chose FC Utrecht after a conversation with technical director Jordy Zuidam and trainer Ron Jans. “I was enthusiastic about their enthusiasm,” says Zechiël on the FC Utrecht website. “They both attach great importance to the human aspect.”
Zechiël’s presentation followed a few hours after the arrival of Turkish attacker Emirhan Demircan. The twenty-year-old left winger comes over on a free transfer from the second team of Bayern Munich and has signed a three-year contract in the Dom city, with an option for another year.
Demircan, a youth international for Turkey, was good for six goals and five assists last season at the fourth level of Germany. According to FC Utrecht, he could have stayed longer at Bayern Munich, but he nevertheless chose the Dom city.
FC Utrecht is very busy in the transfer market. With Zechiël and Demircan, the total is already six new players. Earlier, the number four of the past Eredivisie season signed Dani de Wit, Derry Murkin, Mike Eerdhuijzen and Davy van den Berg. Utrecht must start the new season early due to European obligations.
