The Dutch import of Ukrainian goods in 2024 was almost as high as in the record year 2021. If the transit to other countries is not included, the import value was even at the highest level.
The Netherlands imported 2.3 billion euros worth of goods from Ukraine in 2024, reports statistics office CBS. That is almost as much as in the record year 2021, when imports amounted to almost 2.6 billion euros. Due to the Russian invasion, trade fell sharply in the intervening years.
If transit is not included and only trade remains, imports are even at a record level: more than 2 billion euros in 2024, compared to almost 1.9 billion euros in 2021. The total of trade and transit can be seen in the graph below.
The import of iron and steel from Ukraine has almost completely disappeared. “In 2022, two of Ukraine’s largest steel factories fell into Russian hands,” writes the CBS. “Imports have not recovered to date.”
Corn remains the most important import product, followed by oilseeds. Half of all imported corn in the Netherlands comes from Ukraine. In 2023, this was 25 percent.
