So far unknown work by Belgian painter Ensor has appeared after 125 years

A previously unknown work by Belgian painter James Ensor has recently surfaced. The Brussels auction house Arenberg Auctions announced this on Saturday. The work will be auctioned next week.

It is a portrait of Ensor’s mother, Marie Louise Cathérine Haegheman, at the age of 65. The work dates from the year 1900. According to the Ensor Advisory Committee, it is an authentic painting.

Arenberg Auctions will auction the work between June 12 and 14 with a starting price of 80,000 euros. Other artworks by Ensor will also be auctioned at the same auction.

Works by Belgian artists such as Paul Delvaux, René Magritte, and Léon Spilliaert will also be auctioned.

James Ensor lived between 1860 and 1949 and is known as one of the greatest painters in Belgium.
