UWV also made mistakes with sickness benefits

UWV also made mistakes with sickness benefits

The UWV (Employee Insurance Agency) has again made errors in calculating benefits. This time, it went wrong with sickness benefits. The benefit agency is investigating approximately three thousand files in which additional income may have been incorrectly accounted for. Recipients must report their additional income to the UWV.

Previously, errors had already occurred with WIA (Work and Income according to Labour Capacity Act) and WW (Unemployment Insurance Act) benefits. A spokesperson for the UWV confirms the new error following reports from the AD and EenVandaag.

This problem has been ongoing since 2016. In addition to the 3,000 current files, the UWV is also investigating how to handle 52,000 terminated sickness benefits.

The problem with the sickness benefits came to light in February during quality controls. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment has been informed. The ministry is now discussing with the UWV how the error can be rectified and which benefits can be checked.

The issue is separate from previously made errors. Since March, the UWV has corrected the calculation for ongoing sickness benefits.

The error comes on top of the problems with WIA and WW benefits. The WIA is for the disabled and the WW for the unemployed. At the end of April, the UWV reserved 100 million euros to correct previously made errors.
