Tsitsipás wants to return to World Top with Ivanisevic as a coach

Goran Ivanisevic

Stéfanos Tsitsipás has appointed Goran Ivanisevic as his coach. The Greek player, who will no longer be among the top 25 tennis players after Roland Garros, wants to return to the world top with the help of the former Wimbledon champion.

The 26-year-old Tsitsipás is experiencing a less successful phase in his career. This week, he was already eliminated in the second round at Roland Garros. The Italian Matteo Gigante, ranked number 167 in the world, defeated him.

In the past three Grand Slam tournaments, Tsitsipás has only won one match. On the virtual ranking list, he currently occupies the 26th place. In 2021, he was still the world number three. In recent years, the Greek player seemed to be a contender to make an attack on the number one position.

Ivanisevic was the coach of 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic from 2019 to 2024. At the end of last year, he started working with the Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina, but that turned out not to be a success.

The 53-year-old Ivanisevic caused a stir in 2001 by winning Wimbledon on a wildcard. It is still regarded as one of the most remarkable achievements in the history of the tournament. The collaboration between Tsitsipás and Ivanisevic will begin during the grass season, which starts after Roland Garros.

Tsitsipás reached the final of Roland Garros four years ago, as well as in 2023 at the Australian Open. He is still waiting for his first Grand Slam title.
