Orange women without Van Domselaar in Nations League match with Germany

The Dutch national team will have to do without first goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar in Friday’s Nations League Women’s match against Germany. The freshly crowned Champions League winner is not fit enough to play.

Van Domselaar experienced a highlight in her career on Saturday by winning the Champions League with Arsenal. Playing the goalkeeper in the final against FC Barcelona was a race against the clock, as she had been struggling with an ankle injury in recent weeks.

After the final without match rhythm, Van Domselaar is not fit enough to play against Germany with the Orange Women on Friday. The 25-year-old goalkeeper will remain with national coach Andries Jonker’s selection to work on her recovery.

The Dutch national team will play against Germany in Bremen on Friday at 8:30 PM. The top position in the Nations League pool is at stake in this match. Both countries now have ten points. The Orange Women will conclude the group stage on Tuesday with a home match against Scotland.

Jonker has brought Ajax goalkeeper Regina van Eijk into the selection as a replacement for Van Domselaar. It appears that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Lize Kop will be in goal on Friday. Third goalkeeper Daniƫlle de Jong (FC Twente) will then move up to the role of stand-in.

After the Nations League matches against Germany and Scotland, the Orange Women will focus on the European Championship. The tournament in Switzerland will start on July 2. The Netherlands is in a group with France, England and Wales.
