Fellow artists and other well-known Dutch figures have reacted with shock to the news that Freek Rikkerink, of the duo Suzan & Freek, has metastatic lung cancer. The couple announced on Tuesday that a cure is no longer possible and that they are ceasing all work activities.
Suzan & Freek shared the news on Instagram, where many fellow artists are expressing their condolences. “How terrible. I wish you all the strength and love to get through this together and with the people around you,” writes Ilse DeLange. The singer was scheduled to be a coach alongside the duo in The Voice of Holland, which will be broadcast in January 2026.
Suzan & Freek regularly perform at De Vrienden van Amstel LIVE. Several artists who have also been on that stage are reacting to the news. DJ Sunnery James writes: “Lots of strength and love to you.”
“Sweethearts, no words. I’m thinking of you and wish you all the love and strength in the coming time,” writes Roxeanne Hazes. Rapper Typhoon also reacts: “Darlings, speechless. Guus Meeuwis and his wife Manon Meijers react with shock: “What an indescribably terrible news. Lots of strength and all the love for you together,” writes Meeuwis. “How unbearably double. The worst nightmare and the dearest wishes,” writes Meijers, referring to the news that the two are expecting a child. “Hope with everything I have that you get the time to enjoy your child together.”
‘What a terribly unfair world’
Other well-known Dutch figures are also sympathizing with the duo. “Can’t find the words. Sending you all the strength and love,” writes presenter Nicolette van Dam. Jim Bakkum has known the duo for almost ten years: “My heart in my throat and tears in my eyes. Dearest people. This shouldn’t be,” the singer and presenter reacts emotionally.
Beauty influencer Nikkie de Jager says: “What a terribly unfair world.” Jochem Myjer calls it “intensely sad.” “All the love I can find your way,” shares the comedian.
