Arantxa Russian again to second round Roland Garros after a handsome victory over Osorio

Arantxa Rus

Arantxa Rus has managed to reach the second round of Roland Garros for the second year in a row on Monday. The Dutch number 94 in the world was too strong for the Colombian Camila Osorio in three sets: 4-6, 6-2 and 6-4.

The 34-year-old Rus had a difficult start on court 6, where, in addition to some Dutch fans, a handful of Colombian fans were also present. After an early break, Rus gave up two service games.

Breakpoints then rained down on the gravel in Paris. Osorio (WTA-51) did not serve well, but managed to win the first set after 45 minutes.

In the second set, the initiative was with Rus. The Dutch player served strongly and put her opponent under pressure with solid play. Rus managed to break Osorio twice, after which she took the set on her own service.

Rus also remained calm in the third and decisive set. At 1-1, the tennis player from Monster broke her opponent, who fought back in the set with a break. After 2 hours and 10 minutes, it was Rus who emerged victorious.

Rus reached fourth round in 2012

Rus will face the Danish Clara Tauson (WTA-22) or the Polish Magda Linette (WTA-32) in the second round. Last year, the second round was the final stop for Rus.

At Roland Garros, Rus experienced a highlight in her career in 2012. After a victory over the German Julia Görges, she reached the fourth round in Paris. That is still her best performance at a Grand Slam.

Rus is currently the only Dutch player to be in the second round in Paris. Botic van de Zandschulp was eliminated on Sunday. Tallon Griekspoor, Jesper de Jong and Suzan Lamens still have a chance of a place in the second round.
