Russia and Ukraine exchanged another 307 prisoners of war on Saturday. The countries had already exchanged 390 prisoners on Friday. This is the largest exchange since the beginning of the war.
“Another 307 Ukrainian soldiers are home,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X.
“Today is the second day of the thousand-for-thousand deal we negotiated in Turkey. In these two days, 697 people have been brought home. We expect the process to resume tomorrow.”
According to Zelensky, soldiers and border guards, among others, were released on Saturday. The goal of the Ukrainian president is to “bring everyone back from Russian captivity.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense also reported on Saturday that 307 prisoners of war had been handed over. The Kremlin says the exchange is continuing.
The countries made agreements about the large prisoner exchange last week in Istanbul. But the countries achieved little else in their first direct negotiations.
