FC Utrecht has strengthened its squad with Dani de Wit on Thursday. The former Ajax and AZ player is transferring from VfL Bochum, with whom he was relegated from the Bundesliga this season. He signs for three years.
De Wit made the switch from AZ to Bochum last summer. The 27-year-old midfielder could not count on a starting place in Germany. He played 28 games, in which he scored twice. Bochum finished this season eighteenth in the Bundesliga.
“FC Utrecht is a great club and a great opportunity,” says De Wit on his new club’s website. “I think the club has really shown ambition – especially in recent years – by structurally reaching the top seven.”
“They want to take an extra step in that regard and they have also shown that on a sporting level this year. I hope to contribute to that, so that we can maintain that.”
Previously, De Wit played for AZ for five years. Before that, he played for Ajax, where he went through the youth academy. De Wit was part of the successful Ajax selection that became national champion in 2018/2019, won the KNVB Cup and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. De Wit was mainly a substitute that season.
De Wit is the third reinforcement for FC Utrecht. The Domstedelingen previously took over defender Mike Eerdhuijzen from Sparta Rotterdam. Midfielder Davy van den Berg is transferring from PEC Zwolle.
