Radiolympia has received the Honorary Silver Reiss Microphone this year, an award for special radio achievements. Jury chairman Vincent Bijlo announced this on Wednesday evening in Along the line on NPO Radio 1.
The jury calls the program an example of “how radio can bring the Olympic Games to life in a compelling way.” According to the jury, Radiolympia is “more exciting than the subject.” The program brings the sporting events “into your home, into the car, between your ears in an unsurpassed way.”
Last year, the program was presented by Ghislaine Plag, Jurgen van den Berg, Robbert Meeder, and Fleur Wallenburg, among others.
In addition to the honorary award, Bijlo also announced the nominees for the Silver Reiss Microphone. The contenders are The evening start with Simone Walraven (Omroep MAX, NPO Radio 5), Grandmix 1994 by Ben Liebrand (Radio Veronica), and Mischa! by Mischa Blok (AVROTROS, NPO Radio 1). Radio station CREAM received a special mention.
The Silver Reiss Microphone is awarded annually to the best radio program or the most striking radio maker. The winner will be announced on June 12 in Het Ketelhuis in Amsterdam, where the Zilveren Nipkowschijf will also be awarded. For that television award, A false start, To assure, and Danny on the spot have been nominated.
