Joshua Zirkzee made a surprise return to the training field at Manchester United on Tuesday. The Dutch striker was expected to miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury but appears to be fit again. Matthijs de Ligt trained individually in the lead-up to the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old Zirkzee played his last match in April, where he injured his hamstring. His season seemed over, but he can now hope for minutes in the Europa League final (Wednesday at 9:00 PM).
“It is possible that Zirkzee will be in action in the Europa League final,” United writes on the club website. The striker scored three goals for United this season. Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot also returned to the training field after injury.
De Ligt skipped the group training session. The Dutch international worked on an individual training session. The 25-year-old defender has already missed three matches due to a knee injury.
Whether Zirkzee and De Ligt will be available for the Europa League final remains to be seen. United coach RĂºben Amorim will hold a press conference later in the day (around 7:30 PM) in the lead-up to the Europa League final.
If United wins the final, it will secure Champions League football after a poor season. In addition to Champions League football, Tottenham Hotspur can secure their first major prize in seventeen years.
