Wout van Aert was very happy on Sunday with his stage win in the Giro d’Italia. The Belgian completed a trilogy, after earlier stage victories in the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. Yet he was emotional by something else.
“It may be clear that this means a lot,” Van Aert told Sporza after his victory in the Giro gravel stage. The thirty-year-old Belgian of Visma-Lease A Bike swallowed some tears. “They won’t take this off.”
