A group of workers in the Peruvian capital, Lima, discovered a mummy more than a thousand years old. During work on pipelines, the workers found a tomb under the street, in which the mummy was located.
The mummy was found in a seated position, with its arms and legs bent, reports AP News. Pottery was also found in the tomb.
The tomb was probably part of a large cemetery and belongs to the Chancay civilization. According to archaeologist José Aliaga, this population group lived in the Lima region between the eleventh and fifteenth centuries.
Archaeological finds are regularly made in Lima. For example, the gas company for which the workers work has already reported more than 2,200 possible archaeological discoveries since 2004.
