Botic van de Zandschulp was unable to finish his opening match at Wimbledon on Monday. With a 2-0 lead in sets, the match against Matteo Arnaldi was stopped due to lack of light.
Around 10:15 PM, Van de Zandschulp secured the second set. Immediately afterward, the umpire announced that play could not continue due to the encroaching darkness. The match will be completed at the start of the day on Tuesday.
Van de Zandschulp and Arnaldi saved their best tennis for the end of the evening. The two received applause for several beautiful points. Due to the absence of floodlights, the spectators had to go home before the end of the match.
Van de Zandschulp and Arnaldi returned to the hotel, where the Dutchman will spend the night with a better feeling. Although the two were closely matched, Van de Zandschulp was twice the best in the tiebreak.
